Friends of the BC Archives November 2007 lecture

The Friends of the BC Archives guest speaker at their meeting on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at 2:00 pm in the Newcombe Conference Hall, Royal BC Museum, 675 Belleville St., Victoria, will be Dr. Richard Rajala, University of Victoria. He will be talking about the social and environmental history of the north coast forestry industry - emphasizing in particular the area's status as a resource hinterland, the problems of corporate concentration, and resistance on the part of First Nations, small producers and communities to a pattern of development that has failed to achieve both social and ecological sustainability.

There is a $5.00 charge for the general public, payable at the door. No charge for members of the Friends of the B.C. Archives.

Victoria Historical Society October 2007 meeting

The Victoria Historical Society welcomes author Diedre Simmons who will speak on the first 100 years of St. Margaret's School at its October 25, 2007 meeting. Visitors are welcome to this talk at the James Bay New Horizons, 234 Menzies St., which starts at 7 p.m. For more information call (250) 480-1061.

The Friends of the BC Archives guest speaker at their meeting on Sunday, October 21, 2007, will be Stephen Hume, the Vancouver Sun columnist and heritage writer. He will discuss how stories for a popular audience can emerge from archival material, and the importance of archives to the democratic process. The talk will take place at the Newcombe Conference Hall, Royal BC Museum, 675 Belleville St., Victoria, between 2 and 4 pm. This event is FREE.

Hallmark Society September 2007 meeting

The Hallmark Society meeting for Monday, September 24, 2007 features speaker John Veillette who will give an illustrated lecture on "Art Deco in Victoria". The meeting will be at the James Bay New Horizons Centre, 234 Menzies Street, Victoria at 7:30 pm. Admission by donation.
